Jordan, Japan ink $20m grant agreement
A grant agreement worth $20 million was signed on Wednesday by Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif and Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) main representative in Amman Sukihi Sakata.

The grant will support the rehabilitation and expansion of water networks in the Blaqa governorate, reported Petra.

During Jordan’s recent royal visit to Japan, Japanese government has provided the Kingdom a second grant of $1.75 million for the purchase of equipment and supplies to improve the performance of the Department of Meteorology. Japan also announced that it will provide Jordan a soft loan of $150 million to support development.

Jordan obtained between 1999 and 2014 a total amount of $764.42 million from Japan, of which $430 million represented grants and the rest were soft loans, added to technical aid given through the JICA.
