France's CNIM addresses Bahrain to approve $400m waste recycling project
France's CNIM said it has formally addressed the Bahraini government to obtain its approval over the $400 million waste recycling project it was awarded nearly four years ago.

Francois Canellas Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board at CNIM stated that his company was expected to commence work within weeks after the agreement, reported the Arabic newspaper Al Ayam.

CNIM has been unable to reach Juma bin Ahmed Al Kaabi, the country's Minister for Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, he added.

Nonetheless, it took the Bahraini authorities nearly 18 months to respond to CNIM's (first) request for approval; he noted adding that the company was informed in December 2013 that the license for the project would be issued within 15 days.

According to the media reports, the scheme will be the country's first waste recycling plant, which will handle 390,000 tons of waste per annum to generate 200 MW of electricity.
