Italy, Cyprus ease travel ban to Egypt
Egypt’s ambassador in Rome Amr Helmi said that the Italian foreign ministry allowed Italians tourists to travel to Egypt, especially areas of the Red Sea, Sharm el-Sheikh, Luxor and Aswan, State Information Service (SIS) reported on Sunday.
In addition, the Cypriot foreign ministry issued a new travel guidance for citizens who are wishing to travel to Egypt, which confirms that the areas of Giza, 6th October, Luxor, Aswan, Sharm el-Sheikh and St. Catherine are perfectly safe to receive tourists.
On October 7, the ministry of foreign affairs announced that Bulgaria has lifted a travel ban on Egypt. The ministry added that the Bulgarian decision came in the wake of efforts by Egyptian diplomatic figures to help boost faltering tourism.
Several countries advised their citizens against travelling to Egypt following mass protests against Muslim Brotherhood rule 30 June. Days later the military responded to protests by deposing president Mohamed Mursi.
In late November, 17 countries worldwide lifted travel warnings on Egypt, among which the UK, Germany, France, Norway and Holland, which deem that the security situation in Egypt has improved, tourism ministry spokesperson Rasha El-Azazi told Ahram Online.
"Russia and Italy's travel warnings on Egypt are expected to be lifted soon," El-Azazi added.
