Slowdown in loans, NPLs rise -Moroccan statistics
System loan growth leveled down to 3.2% Y-o-Y against 3.9% in July. M-o-M, total loans inched down by 0.8% after a 0.3% decline in July. On a Y-o-Y basis equipment or Capital Expenditure capex-related loans had an improvement over the past three months, however, such growth declined in August by 3.6% Y-o-Y, reported Bank Al-Maghrib.

Real estate loans dropped by 13% Y-o-Y. Meanwhile, the consumer sector increased by 9.4% Y-o-Y.

Management at Moroccan banks under coverage can expect loan growth in the domestic operations to range between 3-5% in 2014-15.

Non-performing loans (NPLs) surged in August to 27% Y-o-Y and 0.8% M-o-M, and the NPL ratio increased to 6.8%, the report added.

Total deposits grew by 2.4% Y-o-Y in August. Moreover, the loan-to-deposit ratio was broadly fixed M-o-M at 104%.
