Expo 2020 win sees new business hike
The Links Group, company formation specialist, said yesterday in a media statement that Dubai’s success in winning the Expo 2020 bid has contributed to a spike in its international enquiries, Emirates 24/7 reported.

“More foreign companies are now looking to establish a commercial presence in the region to take advantage of the anticipated economic windfall the expo will bring,” the firm noted in the statement. According to the group, this is having a knock-on effect on company incorporation in Qatar too as Dubai-based foreign-owned companies look to establish a secondary office in the Gulf state.

We are expecting foreign interest in the UAE and Qatar will escalate in 2014 as international markets come under increasing pressure to drive growth through exports and foreign investments. It is important that The Links Group is best positioned to support this demand,” said John Martin St. Valery, founding partner, The Links Group.

The company maintains that the bulk of foreign interest for opening new businesses continues to come from the UK, accounting for 40 per cent of The Links Group’s commercial licensing business in 2013. However, interest from Australia is on the rise following The Links Group’s recent partnership with the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Hospitality continues to be the most active sector for the company with many household hotel brands looking to establish independent management companies in the UAE. Professional services companies are also eager to establish a presence in the region as demand for consultancy support services grows.

Restructuring of existing UAE businesses has been another growth area for it as disparate groups of local companies look to consolidate their positions in preparation for seeking external finance or divestment.
