During 2013 a total of USD44bn projects were awarded in the UAE with more than 60% of the awards in the Construction (real estate) sector, according to MEED Projects. The UAE was second only to Saudi Arabia's USD66bn. Not only is this a 37% increase on the 2012 awards, but over USD10bn worth of projects have resumed construction activity during 2013. The Oil sector was the second most active with just over 21% (USD9bn) of awards followed by the Transport sector with 8% (USD3.5b). Comparing Q1 2014 against the Q1 2013, the total value of contracts was just over USD700mn higher than Q1 2013, according to Mubasher Trade and Research.
