Jordan, GCC eye closer economic cooperation

Jordan, GCC eye closer economic cooperation
Jordanian and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officials met here on Tuesday to ponder over suggested mechanisms purposed to promote and consolidate bilateral economic cooperation, KUNA reported.
The two-day meeting was decided during a joint ministerial gathering that was held in Manama on November 12, 2012, and adopted a mutual plan of action targeting closer strategic cooperation between the GCC member states and Jordan.
The conferees are expected to focus on mechanisms aiming to beef up bilateral economic and trade relations and to boost the two-way trade exchange, the Jordanian Ministry of Planning said in a release.
Speaking to KUNA on the event, Assistant Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Finance for Economic Affairs, Sami Al-Saqabi, who is leading the participating Kuwaiti delegation, said the meeting, which is the first of its kind between the GCC and Jordan, will reflect on bilateral economic integration guidelines.
GCC-Jordanian relations have greatly developed in various cooperative domains over the recent period, with the oil-rich Gulf countries having pledged five-year development aid worth USD 5 billion to Amman.
