The Dubai Financial Market (DFM) management has set forth 12 aspects it considers general duties and responsibilities to be implemented by investors seeking to trade on the local markets. According to Emarat Al Youm, following these rules or aspects would allow investors to avoid mistakes and losses. These rules are:

1- Determining the objectives of the investment
2- Investing with surplus cash
3- Knowing one’s rights according to the law
4- Selecting good brokerage companies
5- Having an idea about the company in which they seek to invest
6- Not relying on rumours and hearsay
7- Monitoring prices and economic indices
8- Reviewing account statements
9- Diversifying portfolios
10- Attending general meetings
11- Monitoring statements and decisions
12- Receiving dividends
