Contractors in Abu Dhabi have affirmed that steel prices are currently stable and have been as such for a few months. This stability is due to the strong competition between the Emirati steel produced by Emirates Steel, and the Turkish steel, they added.
According to a recent price survey, Emirati steel stood at AED 2310 per ton, while Turkish and Qatari steel stood at AED 3210 and AED 2400 per ton, respectively. These figures have remained stable since April 1, 2014.
There is a strong competition between the Emirati steel and the Turkish steel in the UAE in general and in Abu Dhabi in particular, the contractors said, highlighting that Emirati steel accounts for more than 70% of Abu Dhabi’s infrastructure and construction projects. It is used in several major projects in the emirate including the project to expand the Abu Dhabi airport, the Louvre Museum, Al Reem Island Towers, and Saadiyat Island buildings.
