DEWA completes AED 529mn transmission substations projects
Since the beginning of this year, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has completed four 132kV transmission substations in Dubai and extended 32km of ground cables at a total cost of AED 529 million.

DEWA upgraded the 132kV network was to ensure load distribution across main substations. A total of 65km of ground cables were extended across 41 upgrades at a cost of AED 330 million. DEWA also rolled out an additional 113km of 400kV overhead cables at a cost of AED 278 million. These stations and networks are the backbone of DEWA’s grid and help establish Dubai’s leading position in the region.

The upgrades contribute to providing a reliable infrastructure that meets the development requirements of Dubai and maintains its position as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism, and green economy.

“DEWA constantly works on enhancing and upgrading the infrastructure for generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and water to meet the requirements of consumers, developers, and other business sectors in light of constant demand growth. We work to realise customers’ requirements in accordance with the highest levels of availability, reliability, efficiency and safety,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

To date, DEWA has completed 19 of its 400kV substations and now operates a total of 198 132kV substations.

DEWA is currently working on completing 27 of its 132/11kV sub stations in collaboration with different developers in Dubai, in addition to 197km of 132kV ground cables, a 400/132kV sub station, two 400kV Static VAR Compensator units, and 10km of 400kV overhead power lines. Various projects are currently under review and are scheduled to be implemented this year and in the near future.
