Al Maya Group to raise its imports from Jordan

UAE-based Al Maya Group expressed its keenness on Tuesday to raise its imports of vegetables and other products from the Kingdom, reported Gulf Today.

According to official foreign trade figures released by the Jordan’s Department of Statistics (DoS) in November, Jordan is currently a major supplier of fruits and vegetables to the Gulf Arab market, especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

The value of Jordan’s fruit and vegetable exports rose 20% to JOD 410 million or $577 million during the first nine months of 2014, compared to JOD 340 million or $476 million during the corresponding period of 2013, according to DoS.

While receiving Jordan’s Consul General Dr Saed Radaideh at the Group’s supermarket at Murooj Complex in Dubai, Al Maya Group’s Director Kamal Vachani said that “We see increasing demand for Jordanian vegetables in the UAE and imports could be increased multifold.”

Radaideh expressed his full support to help Al Maya Group boost food imports from Jordan.

Noteworthy, Al Maya Group has more than 40 supermarkets in the GCC countries, added to other businesses. The group recently expanded its presence in Oman and Abu Dhabi by launching new outlets.
