Al Shafar wins AED488m contract for UAE history museum

United Arab Emirates – Mubasher: The UAE’s Al Shafar General Contracting Co. LLC (ASGC) has announced being awarded an AED 488 million contract from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to build the Union Museum in Dubai.

The contract involves building eight sections, each corresponding to specific historical periods or themes, in addition to all supporting facilities, the company said in a statement, adding that the new museum will chronicle the UAE’s history.

The museum will be located next to Dubai’s Union House, where the country’s rulers signed the constitution of the UAE on 2 December 1971.

Commenting on the award, ASGC CEO Bishoy Azmy said: “As a local UAE business, we are proud to win this culturally important contract to build the Union Museum, [which] will chronicle and celebrate the UAE’s rich heritage and educate current and future generations, as well as international visitors, on the proud history of this country.”

Over the past 25 years, ASGC has worked on more than 250 projects including Dubai’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, City Walk, the Golden Mile, Jumeirah Beach Residence Sector 6 and Business Central Towers. Its clients include Emaar Misr, Al-Habtoor Group, IFA Hotels & Resorts, DAMAC Properties and others.
