Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) approved 22 projects and designs in an area spanning 700,000 square metres during the first quarter of 2015, the UPC’s general manager, Falah Mohammed Al-Ahbabi, said on Tuesday.

“The list of approved developmental projects includes housing, school and retail projects,” Al-Ahbabi revealed on the sidelines of the CityScape Abu Dhabi exhibition.

The council has approved the construction of an early education centre on Al-Reem Island, he said, adding that a detailed scheme has also been approved for an Abu Dhabi school, which will expand to reach a capacity of 14,800 students, from primary to secondary stages.

“We have also approved the Al-Falah Mall on Abu Dhabi Island, which will consist of two floors of commercial shops,” the general manager revealed, adding that rentable space reaches 30,000 square metres, while the total surface area of the project reaches 45,600 square metres.

The residential Shams 73 villa project in Zayed City in the northern region has also been approved, Al-Ahbabi noted.

He said the UPC recently drew up a strategic and integrated five-year urban plan (2016-2020) for the emirate to implement its new vision for Abu Dhabi for 2030.
