ADX bounces back on telecoms, real estate

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) ended Wednesday’s session in the green after staying most of the day in the red, spurred by the telecom and real estate sectors and shrugging off a decline in banks and energy stocks.

The benchmark index ADI rose 0.12% or 5.47 points to 4,678.65 points.

Turnover rose to AED 318.75 million, compared with AED 225.03 million, while traded volume increased to 183.23 million shares from 130.13 million shares.

The real estate sector was the most active with around AED 140 million, after Aldar Properties recorded AED 72.34 million.

The telecom sector advanced 0.44%, backed by Etisalat stock. The real estate sector rose 0.35% on a boost from Aldar, which added 0.36%, but ignored Eshraq’s fall of 0.95%.

The consumer staples sector topped the gainers with a rise of 2.1%, helped by Agthia, which ended 2.35% higher.

The market’s gains were trimmed by the energy sector, which lost 0.4% due to a fall in Taqa by 1.33%.

The banks sector also inched lower by 0.01%, weighed by First Gulf Bank, which sagged 0.3%. Meanwhile, Bank of Sharjah and ADIB rose 2.48% and 1.19% in a row.

The industrial sector was the worst performer, sagging 0.5% after Arkan fell 4.8%.
