Dubai - Mubasher: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced starting an AED 108 million project to supply, extend and launch a 16-km main water distribution network between Jebel Ali and Al-Quoz, DEWA said in a statement.

The project supports the authority’s strategy to meet the electricity and water requirements for the overall development of the emirate and which supports the Dubai Plan 2021.

“DEWA is focused on further enhancing the efficiency and capacity of the infrastructure to generate, transmit and distribute electricity and water to secure the increasing needs of customers, developers and other business sectors, to help enhance the sustainable development of Dubai,” said DEWA CEO and managing director Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer.

The project involves extending the 1,200 mm glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) water transmission pipeline by an additional 16 km, from Jebel Ali, through Al-Khail road, to the pumping station complex in Al-Quoz, the statement said.

The project also includes a remote control and monitoring system to enhance transmission capacity between Jebel Ali and the main pumping stations in Al-Quoz as well as connecting the main transmission lines in different locations to increase water flow and meet increasing demand in those areas according to approved plans.

The project is expected to be completed in September 2016, Al-Tayer noted.
