The US dollar is still the most popularly traded currency in Makkah, The Peninsula Times reported citing currency exchange officials.
Visitors often arrive in Saudi Arabia with dollars in hand exchanged for their local currency as the dollar remains one of the most stable currencies worldwide.
Adel Multaei, an owner of exchange business in Makkah, said the dollar is the most exchanged by pilgrims this time of year, followed by the euro, British pound, Swiss Franc and the Canadian dollar.
He added that the gulf currencies follow the European and American currencies, in addition to the Egyptian pound, Turkish lira and Nigerian naira.
