EGX gains EGP11bln in week of closing Suez Canal certificates subscription
Indices of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) rose and market capitalization rose nearly EGP11 billion last week; as the central bank closed subscription to the investment certificates of Suez Canal after recording EGP 64 billion proceeds.
The benchmark index EGX30 rose 2.67% or 253.42 points to end the week at 9729.1 points. The small and mid-cap index EGX70 also gained 3.3% or 20.24 points to 631.89 points. The broader index EGX100 ended 3% or 33.78 points higher at 1152.48 points.
Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hisham Ramez announced on Monday closing subscription to Suez Canal certificates after total proceeds hit EGP 64 billion. Ramez will hold a press conference on Sunday to disclose the full details about the subscription.
