Egypt, US discuss means of boosting economic ties
Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khalid Hanafi met with Minister Plenipotentiary for Agricultural Affairs at the US embassy in Cairo Ron Verdonk to discuss means of boosting Egyptian-American economic relations, according to State Information Service (SIS) . Hanafi briefed Verdonk on the successful steps taken by Egypt to apply the new subsidy system. The meeting took up international logistics hubs to be established on the New Suez Canal Corridor and in the ports of Damietta, Port Said and Suez. They also discussed Egypt's strategic coalitions with the UAE, Uganda and Sudan. On the other hand, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade has purchased 180,000 tons of French wheat to produce subsidized bread through an international tender, which is the seventh of its kind in the new FY. In statements on Wednesday, Hanafi said that the government paid $247.49 per ton, noting that the strategic wheat reserves are within the safe limits and are enough for consumption till February 2015. He said that the ministry is importing wheat from several international wheat bourses, especially from Russia, Romania, Canada, France, Argentina, US, Ukraine and others according to the best quality and lowest prices.
