El Sisi: No plan to delay parliamentary elections
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi has stressed that there is no plan to delay holding the country’s parliamentary elections; thus ending a controversy among political powers, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
Speaking at a celebration of national farmer’s day, El Sisi said Egyptians should choose carefully those who will represent them, as the upcoming parliament will bear significant responsibilities.
The parliamentary elections are planned to take place before the end of the year, completing the roadmap after passing a new constitution in 2014 and holding the presidential elections that brought El Sisi to power.
Until an elected parliament arrives, El-Sisi will continue to hold all legislative powers. The president also called on youth to participate and to run for elections.
El Sisi also spoke of future plans for health insurance for farmers and agriculture workers.
He commended the participation of the Egyptian people in subscription to certificates for the digging of an expansion of the Suez Canal and thanked them for their efforts to help boost the Egyptian economy.
