Kuwait's $1bln aid to Egypt unconfirmed, says FinMin
Egypt’s Finance Minister Hani Kadri Dimian refused to confirm the news that Kuwait has given Egypt $1 billion in aid, according to Ahram Online.
"I cannot give you any confirmation at this moment with regards to the Kuwaiti $1 billion that was stated in the press this morning," Dimian said during a joint press conference with US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew.
It was reported by Al Mal newspaper earlier on Monday that Egypt has received a financial aid amounting to $1 billion from Kuwait, which will go for bolstering the country’s budget. The aid came following top-level consultations between Egyptian and Kuwaiti officials, according to the gazette.
Egypt has received during last year more than $21 billion in finance aid packages, including $3 billion from Kuwait, while the other amount was received from KSA and the UAE. It also received $9 billion as crude products this year.
Egypt’s government is hoping to receive $5 billion in aid from the UAE before the country’s economic summit scheduled for next February.
