Egypt’s mobile firms lose 1.08m users in September
The number of mobile phone subscribers in Egypt fell in September by 1.12%, or 1.08 million users, showed an official report issued by Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Thursday.
According to the report, the number of mobile phone users amounted to 94.76 million at the end of September, compared with around 95.84 million in August.
The three telecom operators, namely Vodafone, Mobinil and Etisalat, lost approx. 2.71 million subscribers over a one-year period, as the number of total subscribers fell by 2.78% to 94.76 million in September from 97.47 million in September, 2013.
The decline in mobile phone users is ascribed to the decision of the Egyptian government to cancel the mobile SIMs that are not registered.
