Egypt’s snack maker Edita said Monday that it sealed two contracts worth $12 million with Hostess Brands LLC to expand the US bakery company’s trademark in the Arab world.
The two deals will financed through a medium-term loan from the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), with a total value of EGP 90 million across seven years, the company said in a bourse statement.
The first contract will extend the scope of proprietary rights for the company’s trademark to include 12 Arab countries, Edita said in a bourse filing.
Meanwhile, the second contract buys Hostess’ know-how for several products and the right to use it in Egypt and other Arab countries.
Edita holds number-one market positions in Egypt in its core cake and croissant segments, a number-two market position in rusks and growing market positions in the wafers and candy segments.
In 2014, Edita recorded revenues of EGP 1.918.6 billion, EBITDA of EGP 463.1 million (24.1% margin) and reported a net profit of EGP 265.9 million.
