L&T bids lowest Sohar airport contract
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) – Oman has presented the lowest bid to build a passenger terminal and other support facilities in the Sultanate’s Sohar Airport, reported Construction Week Online.

L&T submitted an OMR 34.54 million ($89.7 million) bid, 23.9% lower than its closest competing bid of OMR 45.38 million ($117.9 million) made by Carillion Alawi.

Moreover, Joannou and Paraskevaides Oman and Strabag Oman submitted bids of OMR 55.39 million ($143.9 million) and OMR61.48 million ($159.7 million), respectively, data on Oman’s Tender Board website revealed.

The projects required in the bid include the final layers of the 4 km-long runway, aircraft taxiways, roads, fuel station, runway lighting systems, aircraft fuelling system and setting up of equipment required for the operation of the airport.

It is worth noting that Sohar Airport’s first and second project packages have already been completed. They involved civil and infrastructure work, such as construction of the 4-km runway, 30 km of airport service roads, as well as a rainwater protection system.
