UK hotel plans seven hotels in Gulf
The UK’s largest mid-range hotel brand has announced plans to open seven new hotels in the Arabian Gulf by 2017, reported The National.

Premier Inn said it plans to have as many as 10,000 rooms across the Middle East and Asia over the next four years, till 2018.

The Company is seeking to add more hotels in Dubai and Sharjah in the UAE as well as in other Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman. The hotel chain currently operates five hotels in Dubai with another three under construction, added to another five that are still are under discussion.

“Network density is important so if one hotel is full we can offer another locally,” said David Vely, regional senior vice president for development at Premier Inn International, adding that “Dubai has the highest revenue per available room [Revpar] in the GCC and I cannot see that ending with its growing infrastructure and diversification”.

It is worth noting that while the UAE may be popular for its luxury hotel offerings, it is the mid-range hotels that are the fastest-growing in the sector.

The Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in September 2013 called for an increase in the number of budget hotels and offered a municipal tax reprieve in an effort to meet demand for such hotels, The National reported, adding that eligible hotels are exempted from the 10% municipality fee levied on the daily room rate.
