Egypt bourse tops Arab markets in 2014
Cairo-Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) has come on top of all Arab stock markets during 2014, with a rise by 32% during the year.
In its annual report, EGX said Arab stock markets saw severe declines at the end of 2014 due to the slump in oil prices.
EGX has also achieved better performance compared to other markets during 2014, despite the political and economic difficulties seen last year.
According to MSCI Price Index-IMI, which comprises large and medium-cap corporations, Egypt’s bourse came on top among emerging markets in 2014, representing a rise by 26%, EGX said in its annual report.
S&P’s indexes also showed that Egypt stock market has maintained its robust performance. EGX indices jumped collectively during 2014, while market capitalization gained more than EPG 73 billion ($10.2 billion) backed by political and security stability coupled with recovering economic indicators.
“Despite the internal and external difficulties, the stock market successfully achieved positive performance, which qualifies it to become the best economic sector over the recent years,” said EGX Chairman Mohamed Omran.
