New Saudi ruler King Salman
Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was appointed as Governor of Riyadh Province on April 18, 1955, and submitted resignation from this position on Dec. 25, 1960.
On Feb. 4, 1963, King Saud bin Abdulaziz issued a Royal Decree on appointing Salman as Governor of Riyadh once again.
On November 5, 2011, Salman was appointed as the Minister of Defence, replacing his full brother, late Crown Prince Sultan.
On June 18, 2012, Salman was appointed as Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, shortly after the death of his brother, Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz.
Salman will succeed King Abdullah on the throne of the world’s biggest oil exporter.
King Abdullah has died at 1:00 a.m., Friday, January 23.
