Qatar FDI grows to QAR 112bn

Doha-Mubasher: The size of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Qatar rose 1.2% to reach QAR 111.8 billion by the end of 2012, compared to QAR 110.5 billion in 2011, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

MDPS statement included a report entitled “the Foreign Investment Survey for 2013” which provided the detailed results of the second survey of Foreign Investment (FI) in Qatar in 2013. Conducted in collaboration with Qatar Central Bank (QCB), the survey covered all major private and public institutions in Qatar.

Four main sectors accounted for 90.7% of Qatar’s total inward FDI by the end of December 2012. These sectors include mining and quarrying; manufacturing; building and construction; professional, scientific, technical, administrative and supportive service activities.

MDPS noted in its statement that US, Holland, France, Saudi Arabia and Italy represented 74.8% of total FDI by the end of 2012. 

Total outward direct investment from Qatar stood at QAR 73.9 billion in 2012 compared to QAR 61.7 billion in 2011, recording an increase by 19.8%.
