Doha-Mubasher: Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Umm al Houl Power Co. signed the power and water purchase agreement worth QAR 11.47 billion ($3.151 billion), according to a filing to Qatar Stock Exchange.

Umm al Houl is a joint venture company between Qatar Electricity & Water Co. by 60%, Qatar Petroleum by 5%, Qatar Foundation by 5%, and Mitsubishi Corporation and Tokyo Electric Power Co. by 30%.

Qatar Electricity and Water Co. said that its equity share amounted to QAR 920.73 million ($ 252.6 million).

Under the agreement, Umm Al Houl will establish a power and water desalination plant with a total capacity of 2,520 megawatts (MW) of power and 135.6 million imperial gallons per day of water. The project would be executed in two phases during 2017 and 2018.

After the project completion, Qatar’s capacity of power will reach 11,000 MW and 535 MIGD water.
