Almarai Co. said in a bourse statement that fire broke out in one of the Western Bakeries’ plants in Jeddah on Thursday, October 9.
There has been a significant damage to that plant, and the adjacent bakery plant on the same site was also impacted. Almarai operates a total of six bakery plants.
“We are pleased to announce that there have been no injuries,” the company said.
“We are now working to fully assess the damage and implications. We will be making every effort to minimize the impact of this incident and to keep bakery products available in the market” Almarai noted.
The leading dairy producer said the financial impact will be evaluated over the coming weeks after conducting the assessment.
However, the company has adequate insurance in place and this will be fully taken into account in the evaluation.
“We would like to thank the authorities who have worked to bring the situation under control, in particular the Civil Defense Units present at the site, and the company's employees who reacted efficiently to the situation,” Almarai said.
The company will duly unveil any relevant developments.
It is worth mentioning that Western Bakeries is a wholly owned subsidiary of Almarai.
