Riyadh-Mubasher: Al Reef Sugar Refinery Co. has signed a contract with BIA, the executive arm of Germany-based BMA, to establish the largest sugar refinery plant in Jazan.

Top-notch technologies will be used in the new plant in order to save 30-40% of energy, said Al Reef CEO Khalid Al Mousa, adding that the plant will operate with a daily production capacity of 3,000 tonnes.

The kingdom's consumption of sugar reaches more than 1,300 million tonnes.

The plant will have a market share of nearly 30% in the first three years, and then will increase gradually through exporting to neighboring countries, Al Mousa said.
