Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s conventional and renewable energy sector is expected to witness investments worth around $45 billion over the next 10 years, said investment minister Ashraf Salman.

The government has set a 10-year strategy for the country’s energy sector, under which 30,000 MW will be added, the minister said, speaking on the sidelines of an annual energy conference.

The plan will help liberalise the sector, lure the private sector to take part in production and distribution operations and boost investments in the national energy grid, Salman said.

Egypt’s energy crisis poses a key problem to its economy, Salman said, adding that the sector should be developed as part of an overhaul of the country’s infrastructure.
