Dubai – Mubasher: Nakheel said on Monday that it has signed a contract with marine engineering contractor Van Oord to deliver 23.5 km of coastline and breakwaters at Nakheel’s 15.3 square-km waterfront city Deira Islands in Dubai, the UAE.

The agreement signed today with Van Oord Middle East – Dubai is worth AED 387 million and includes work for: sandy beaches, quay walls, rock edges and breakwaters, the company said in a statement. Meanwhile, the overall cost of the coastal work amounts to AED 550 million.

This project aims to transform the emirate’s Deira district into a world-class hub for tourism, living, retail and entertainment.

The scope of work for the first stage of Nakheel’s water edge delivery project entails the development of 8.5 km of beaches, 3.5 km of quay walls and 9.5 km of rock revetments at two of the four Deira Islands.
