EGX benchmark up 2.03%, equities gain EGP 5.6bn

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange(EGX)rebounded on Thursday, for the third time in September, as the benchmark price index added 2.03% to close at 7,295 points.

The small and mid-cap index EGX70 added 1.79% to 394.8 points, while the broader index EGX100 went up 1.39% to 846 points.    

Similarly, the equal-weighted index EGX50 advanced 1.75% to 1,248 points.

The market capitalisation gained nearly EGP 5.6 billion($718.6 million)to close at EGP 450.4 billion, up from EGP 444.8 billion in the previous session.

The market turnover recorded EGP 410.5 million.

Out of the 170 stocks traded today, advancers outnumbered decliners by 127 to 22, while 21 others remained steady.

The Arab investors came as net buyers with EGP 19.8 million, while locals and foreigners stepped in as net sellers with EGP 6.8 million and EGP 13 million respectively.

The heavyweight Commercial International bank advanced 2.85% to EGP 49.8 with traded value of EGP 71.6 million, followed by Talaat Moustafa Group which gained 2.8% to EGP 7.4.

Today’s top gainers’ list was led by Trans Oceans, Egypt Gas, Maridive, Delta for Printing and General Company for Land Reclamation, up by 9.3% to 14.3%.

Declining stocks included Egyptian Starch, Arab Moltaqa Investments, Faisal Islamic Bank, Egyptian Gulf Bank and Oriental Weavers, down by 0.6% to 1.5%.
