Mubasher: Morocco’s central bank, or Bank Al-Maghrib, has received several requests from foreign banks and institutions, especially from GCC states, to open Islamic banks in the North African country, said Abdellatif Jouahri, central bank governor.
The central bank will decide on the issuance of licenses for such banks according to specific criteria, including projected yields, Jouahiri told the International Islamic News Agency (IINA).
In June, Jouahri earlier expected Islamic banks to kick off in the kingdom by early 2016.
