EGX indices end on mixed note; equities gain EGP 1.3bn

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX)indices closed on mixed note on Sunday, as the benchmark index EGX30 added 0.78% to end at 6,477.7 points on the gains of the heavy weight - Commercial International Bank (CIB).

CIB stocks surged 2.68% to EGP 44.07 with trading value of EGP 39.3 million.

The small and mid-cap index EGX70 inched down 0.23% to 349.6 points; while the broader index EGX100 edged up 0.05% to 745.6 points.

On other hand, the equal-weighted index EGX50 fell 0.22% to 1,098.5 points.

Sunday's total turnover reached EGP 483.2 million.

The market witnessed today buying transactions by foreign investors as well as increase in the trades of institutions, on recovery of the investors’ sentiment after the news about launching East Port Said port development project, said Hanan Ramsis, executive director at Cairo Securities Brokerage.

East Port Said port development project marks the first stage of the Suez Canal development project.

The heavy weight CIB started to recover, amid the strong performance of the financial sector.

The market capitalisation gained nearly EGP 1.3 billion ($170 million) to reach EGP 416.9 million up from EGP 415.6 million in the previous session.
