GCCIA seeks cheap energy sources in Africa, says Al-Ebrahim
On the sidelines of the Saudi Water and Electricity Forum

Riyadh-Mubasher: The GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) is conducting studies on power linkage in India, Pakistan and South Yemen, and look for cheap energy sources in Africa, said GCCIA's CEO Ahmed Al-Ebrahim.

He told Mubasher that the authority is working to maximise the economic benefits from the power linkage and activate energy trade, in addition to establishing a joint electricity market.

On the sidelines of the Saudi Water and Electricity Forum held currently in Riyadh, Al-Ebrahim said all GCC countries will suffer from huge economic burdens amid falling oil prices. "We are currently working to reduce expenses."

The GCCIA was established to avoid power outages in the GCC region.

"The authority will likely save $26 billion over the next 25 years through implementing the linkage project economically and establishing a joint electricity market," the CEO said.
