Dubai – Mubasher: The first tender in the Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai World Central (DWC) expansion project will be awarded on 28 May, said Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and CEO of Emirates airline and Group on Monday.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of an airport exhibition, bin Saeed Al Maktoum noted that the new expansions will raise the new airport’s capacity to 120 million visitors.

He added that the first phase of expansions which have already begun will raise capacity from its current 7 million visitors to 26 million.

It is expected that this airport expansion project, which is the largest in the world, will be completed within a 6-to-8-year time frame.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president of the UAE and governor of Dubai, approved in September 2014 the project the Al Maktoum airport at a total cost of AED 120 billion ($32 billion) to raise the airport’s capacity to 240 million visitors.
