Abu Dhabi-Mubasher: The UAE allocated around AED 260 million to support the prices of goods during Ramadan, according to Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy.

The Ministry developed a plan in preparation for Ramadan, he said, adding that there is no shortage in any goods especially rice, flour and cooking oil.

Al Nuaimi ruled out any increase in the prices of food items.

The government will offer more than 70% discount on some goods, the director noted.

All suppliers are committed to increasing their imports to meet the consumers’ demand, he said, adding that imports of fruits and vegetable will rise by no less than 30% to reach 18,000 tons per day.

The department agreed with 540 sales outlets and consumer complexes to fix the prices of more than 4,000 goods in 2016.
