Egypt's 4G license deadline, terms unchanged – Source

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian government is forecast to receive mobile operators' final decisions over the fourth-generation mobile license (4G) next August, said a first-hand source who asked not to be named.

The terms and conditions are still unchanged, the source added, stressing that the value of 4G license is also still the same at EGP 3.54 billion ($397 million), of which 50% will be collected in US dollars.

The source indicated that the state-run China Telecom and Saudi Telecom have only expressed interest in acquiring the 4G mobile-phone license.

In addition, the Kuwaiti Zain that made a formal request and met the Egyptian premier Sherif Ismail and the Minister of Communications and IT (MCIT) four days ago to discuss the 4G license's purchase and the establishment of smart villages.  

Egypt has around 94 million subscribers to mobile services, according to data by the MCIT.
