The SPE Heavy Oil Conference and Exhibition, in its third edition will be held from 6–8 December 2016 in Kuwait at the Hilton Kuwait
Resort. Themed “Future of Heavy Oil: Challenges and Opportunities”, the agenda for this edition will focus on long-term projections
and predictions on the future of heavy oil through the eyes of industry experts.
The agenda is packed with prominent local industry leaders. Speakers in the opening ceremony will include His Excellency Anas AlSaleh,
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Acting Minister of Oil, State of Kuwait; Nizar Al-Adsani, CEO, Kuwait Petroleum
Corporation; Jamal Jaafar, CEO, Kuwait Oil Company; Badria Abdul Raheem, SPE Conference Chairperson and Deputy CEO-North
Kuwait, Kuwait Oil Company.
The conference programme includes an executive plenary session where the following speakers will uncover different aspects of the
conference theme, Bernard Duroc-Danner, CEO, Weatherford; John Gallagher, Executive Vice President Upstream Development,
Shell; Jamal Jaafar, CEO, Kuwait Oil Company; Rod MacGregor, President and CEO, GlassPoint Solar with Emad Sultan, Deputy CEO
(Planning & Commercial), Kuwait Oil Company as the executive plenary session moderator.
Additionally two panel sessions titled “Heavy Oil Economics: Challenges and Opportunities” and “Heavy Oil: Projects in the Region”,
will present prospects to capture opportunities and optimise heavy oil projects. A total of 84 abstracts from 36 companies and 17
countries were selected this year to set an agenda with 14 technical sessions covering a variety of technical papers pertaining to the
exploration, maintenance and retention of heavy oil.
Badria Abdul Raheem said, “The conference is aimed at bringing together top industry specialists to exchange experiences and ideas
on significant improvements and innovation in heavy oil exploration, development, production, processing, and marketing, both in
regional and international heavy oil fields. This event sets the perfect backdrop for high-energy networking, relationship building,
learning, and recognising individuals who have contributed to heavy oil development success and history. There will also be 2
training courses on offer by well-known instructors.”
A free-to-attend exhibition will take place alongside the conference where products and services to enhance, support and advance
