A statement by HE Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs on GITEX Technology Week 2016

The UAE is a leader in driving electronic and digital transformations, which was initiated with the launch of the e- government in 2000 followed by the launch of the smart government in 2013. The UAE’s wise leadership has set utmost importance to developing initiatives that strengthen IT and digital content fields due to its significant role in achieving success and progress for developing countries. The UAE continues to work on enhancing its IT sector and benefit from the digital evolution to achieve sustainable social and economic development as well as build a knowledge-based economy with an innovative climate capable of competing globally.

The Ministry of Finance initiated an electronic shift for its government services with the launch of the e-dirham in 2001. The e-Dirham is now considered as one of the federal government’s most innovative initiatives in the financial sector. The UAE Gate for Government Finance Statistics Reports is also considered as a leading e-system to build a consolidated financial database at the state level that ensures integration in financial information, enhances transparency levels globally, and enables the federal government to fulfill its obligations towards international organizations and provide financial data timely and with high quality. The Ministry of Finance developed a number of leading e-systems to raise levels of effectiveness and efficiency of services, as part of its commitment to strengthen and support innovation as well as benefit from IT applications. IT strengthens services related to government financial work, and in turn effectively contribute towards achieving the “UAE Vision 2021” that aims to build knowledge-based economy led by qualified Emiratis in developing fields of technology to serve sustainable development.

The Ministry of Finance has accomplished several successes in smart services to reflect its commitment to the smart government initiative and its vision as a global leader in financial management. This has been achieved through MoF mServices, an app that provides direct communication channels to meet the needs of users from the public and private sector. Today, the Ministry continues to offer support to the national approach and to develop initiatives that contribute to the smart government shift. This comes as part of the Ministry’s belief in continuously raising the government’s efficiency, the cost saving impact from smart services, as well as optimising time and effort.
