Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) said that it has offered the first high-speed broadband wireless project for remote regions, according to a statement.
Abdulaziz Al-Ruwais, governor of CITC, added that the project comes among the commission's expansion plan, which is a part of the 2020 National Transformation Plan of the telecom sector.
Al Ruwais noted that the initiative includes providing high-speed broadband wireless coverage to 70% of the homes in remote areas by the end of 2020.
The companies that are bidding on the project are: Saudi Telecom Co. (STC), Mobily, Zain KSA, Etihad Atheeb Telecommunication Co. "Go", the Integrated Telecom Co. (ITC) and Bayant Al-Oula Co, the statement said.
The governor pinpointed that project targets providing services to more than 140,000 people in villages and towns in 13 regions across the kingdom.
