Mubasher: Japan's Nikkei index ended Friday's session in the red, shedding 0.58% to close at 19,234.62 points, its lowest level in 6 trading sessions.
Similarly, the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Tokyo Price Index (Topix) was down by 0.42% to 1,544.54 points.
By 0657 GMT, the Japanese yen fell 0.11% against the US dollar, reaching JPY 113.38 per USD.
Meanwhile, China's Shanghai index dropped 0.81% to 3,203.61 points by 0700 GMT, while the Hong Kong bourse's Hang Seng index declined 0.41% to 24,012.3 points.
The Taiwanese bourse's benchmark index slipped 0.12% at close on Friday.
The decline in Asian indices followed weak closings by US counterparts. Overnight, the S&P 500 slipped 0.1%, ending its longest run of gains since 2013,while the Nasdaq Composite index shed 0.1%, whereas the Dow Jones Industrial Average inched up by less than 0.1% to a fresh high
Last week, major US indices enjoyed consecutive gains, reaching new record highs.
