EGX posts weekly gains amid higher market cap

Mubasher: The main index of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), EGX30, rose by 0.37% or 48 points to reach 13,032.06 points by the week ended on 23 March.

EGX’s turnover amounted to EGP 4.26 billion, after 1.22 billion shares were exchanged.

The market cap increased by EGP 5.55 billion to stand at EGP 653.19 billion this week.

The main index of EGX succeeded in forming new support level at 12,850 points, capital market analyst Sameh Gharib said.

He noted that the index is expected to see resistance at 13,200 points at the beginning of the coming week, targeting 13,400 points and 13,550 points, respectively.

As long as the main index preserve the 12,737-point support level, any correction move will be an opportunity for purchasing and creating positions, Gharib said.

EGX70 index gained 5.47% or 29.14 points to reach 561.5 points by the end of this week.

EGX50 index went up 2.54% to end the week at 2,052.2 points.

Foreign and Arab investors at EGX executed purchasing transactions with a value of EGP 149.1 million and EGP 77 million, respectively, while Egyptian traders performed buying transactions with a total of EGP 226.1 million.

Individual traders at EGX acquired 63.6% of the overall transactions this week, while institutions acquired 36.4% of the deals.
