Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Cabinet has approved a law regulating passenger transport services by private cars, the minister of justice, Hossam Abd El-Rehem, said on Monday.

The government will allow companies operating in this field, such as Uber and Careem, a six-month period for reconciliation, the minister added.

According to the minister, the new law consists of 23 articles, and aims at providing a legislation that organises and regulates passenger transportation through private cars using information technology.

The law has been referred to the State Council, according to a statement by the council of ministers.

Ghada Wali, the minister of social solidarity, revealed that the new law will compel companies such as Uber, Careem, and others to pay taxes and social insurance.
