UAE airports’ passengers reach 33.12m in Q1

Dubai – Mubasher: Data by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) showed a 7.3% increase in the number of passengers passing through the UAE’s airports during the first quarter of 2017.

Passenger traffic reached 33.12 million, compared to 30.84 million in Q1-16, the data showed.

The number of passengers travelling through the Dubai International Airport exceeded 23.78 million in Q1-17, representing 72% of the total number of passengers through the Gulf country’s airports.

Abu Dhabi International Airport and Sharjah International Airport followed with 6.46 million and 2.38 million passengers, respectively.

Passengers going through Al Maktoum International Airport, Ras Al Khaimah Airport, and Al Ain Airport reached 343,810, 149,650, and 126,200 passengers, respectively.

January recorded the highest rate in terms of the number of passengers going through the UAE’s airports, which totalled 11.82 million passengers, according to previous data released by the GCAA.

March followed in terms of the highest figures with 11.06 million passengers, while data for February showed a total of 10.22 million passengers.
