Facebook ups competition, eyes launching TV-quality shows
The company has already prepared the casts for two shows

Mubasher: Facebook has started talks with Hollywood studios to produce scripted, TV-quality shows, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

Through this, the giant social network aims to launch an original programming by late summer, the newspaper said Sunday.

In meetings with Hollywood talent agencies, Facebook announced allocating as much as $3 million per episode, WSJ  reported, citing people familiar with the matter as saying.

The company has already prepared the casts for two shows, namely: Strangers, a relationship drama, and Last State Standing, a game show.

Through the new project, Facebook is targeting audiences whose ages range between 13 and 34 years.

Unlike Netflix and Amazon, Facebook is expected to release its shows in episodes, or traditionally, as opposed to releasing the entire season all at once.

The social network also revealed it was willing to share its viewership data with Hollywood, WSJ said.

Earlier in June, iPhone maker Apple hired the co-presidents of Sony Pictures Television to oversee its video-programming efforts, after it took a step towards launching an original TV series named Planet of the Apps last week.
