Mubasher: European stocks saw a mixed performance on Monday as investors focus on the new political developments in the US and Germany.

By 08:55 am GMT, the Eurozone’s main index, the stoxx 600, inched down 0.01% to 400.84 points, while the UK’s FTSE 100 rose marginally by 0.06% to 7,735.21 points.

Meanwhile, France’s CAC 40 fell by 0.14% to 5,519 points and Germany’s DAX declined 0.07% to 13,424.73 amid signs of progress toward forming a new coalition government.

On Sunday, Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed the progress seen in talks between the Social Democratic Party and her Christian Democrats.

In the meantime, the US government shutdown is set to continue for the third day after lawmakers failed to reach an agreement regarding the spending bill.

The euro last climbed 0.22% against the US dollar to $1.2249.
