US sanctions two persons, firms over malicious Russian cyber activities

Mubasher: The US on Tuesday imposed sanctions against two individuals and a company from Russia, and a Slovakian firm over their alleged help for another Russian company to circumvent sanctions targeting its malicious cyber activities.

The sanctioned Russian Vela-Marine and Slovakian Lacno SRO aided Divetechnoservices to avoid previously instated sanctions, the US Treasury said in a statement.

The fresh penalties would also target two employees of Divetechnoservices Marina Igorevna Tsareva and Anton Aleksandrovich Nagibin for acting on behalf of the company to help it avoid the sanctions.

The “action against these deceptive actors is critical to ensure that the public is aware of the tactics undertaken by designated parties and that these actors remain blocked from the US financial system,” the treasury’s statement said.

Last June, the US administration punished the Russian firm for providing submarine equipment and diving systems to Russian government entities, including domestic security service, the FSB.
