New ongoing water projects in Jordan Valley
A number of water projects in the Southern and Central Jordan Valley are currently in progress, Jordan’s Minister of Water and Irrigation Hazem Nasser said in a statement, undertaking to support farmers with more facilities in order to increase the contributions of farming sector to national development.

According to Petra, the Minister inspected during his tour the storage capacity of the Wadi Shueib Dam as well as the progress of work in the first phase of a JOD 7 million irrigation rehabilitation project in the Southern Jordan Valley, bankrolled by the United Arab Emirates.

Financed by the Abu Dhabi Development Fund as part of a large grant to Jordan by the Gulf Arab countries, the main irrigation project includes the establishment of an 83-KM network to boost the water supply efficiency for farmers, according to Nasser.

The Minister was informed about the important achievements including the installment of electric automatic gates at water canals, modern pumps and diversion dams as well as the rehabilitation of aqueducts and building of cement drains which will begin by September 2015.
